A little late, but better than never. Adobe announced that Flash player will be supporting H.264 video. A great boon for internet video. The combination of the market penetration of Flash with the quality of H.264. Very, very cool!
Guess I’m just not paying attention. Canon announced Aug. 1 their new HDD based AVCHD camcorder, the HG10. Looks pretty cool so far. It can record 5.5 hours of 1920×1080 video at its highest quality setting. The best thing though, like its cousin the HV20 it can record at 24p. Wicked sweet!
Release date is October 31, 2007. It is available for pre-order from B&H for $1299.
The school year starts again!
For those who don’t know, I am a member of the adjunct faculty in the Multimedia Program at Bradley University. Yesterday I resumed teaching MM235 Multimedia Video Production. This will be my second semester teaching the entire course and my first using my revised syllabus. I inherited the class from the director of the program Jim Ferolo. Prior to last semester I had only been teaching the lab section.
If all goes well, next semester I’ll also be teaching an independent study course titled MM491 Advanced Video Production. It’s an ambitious idea. Let’s hope it goes well!
I’m currently working on a new and interesting project for the Peoria Art Guild. It is a video piece based on an exhibit from last year entitled Illinois River Stories: A Journey with Regional Photographers. The point of the show, and this piece, is to raise awareness of the need to restore the Illinois River and the Peoria Lakes. The idea is to impart emotion into the process instead of just dry facts.
We’ve finished shooting the interviews and should start the post process soon. More info as it comes in…
Recently, The company I work for, The Iona Group, finished up work on a new web shiny for Tyson called Improv-o-gram. In essence, it lets you create an e-card to send to someone. No big deal, right? These things are all over the place!
Well, here’s the twist, instead of the usual Flash animation, this uses real actors! Using technology created by Oddcast to create Monk-e-Mail, you can use text, record with your computer’s microphone or call in using a telephone and send a personal message to someone.
I was the DP on the project. We shot 12½ hours of green screen footage during a 5 day shoot. Post was taking place in the next room. We ended up with around 155 minutes of finished footage. That means we shot and posted a 2½ hour feature in less than a week! A long but fun week.
