Phoenix Rain video on Vimeo

A few days ago, we got some rain. A lot of rain, actually. I was sitting in the living room, looking out the patio door and listening to the water drip and realized, “There’s a video to be made here!”.

So I grabbed my Canon Rebel T2i with my EF 50mm f/1.8 lens, went outside and started shooting.

Here is the result:

Thanks to my wife and Philip Bloom for getting me shooting more stuff.

Thanks again!

Good info for clients.

I just read this article which really explains video file container formats to clients (and co-workers).

The important bit is this:

.mov, .mkv, .avi and others are containers which mean they’re like sandwiches…

Read the article here.

Personally, I always liked the Christmas present analogy but to each their own.

Bloom’s Weekend Challenge 3 video

Dec. 16, 2010 Comments Off

This past weekend I shot a short video for Philip Bloom’s Weekend Challenge 3. It’s really a great way to try some new or outside your usual comfort zone. It was fun to do and had some interesting challenges.

And so, without further ado, here is the video. Enjoy!

Life update

It’s about time for another life update. Hang tight, this could get messy!

A great many things have occurred in the last 4 months. First off, I moved. Twice. Within 2 months. I believe that this is a new personal record for me.

Let me explain a bit. The job market for me and my wife was not good in Peoria, IL. So she and I decided to move. A difficult decision as I have two young children with my ex-wife. Many discussions were had amongst all the relevant parties and the decision was made.

Right at the same time, I got a call to do a project for The Iona Group. Can’t turn down work, so more stuff to do.

So, we had to pack (incompletely) and move while beginning preparations for moving into the new place. Then part of the deal in the new place was preparing it for sale. We were doing that, had a garage sale, wife heading to Phoenix for interviews for a week, I was working this job and packing to move to Phoenix. *whew*

Since we’ve gotten here the wife has started working (in a job she loves), I’ve been looking for work, we’ve found an apartment, furnished it, decorated it and now we can live in it.

Needless to say, busy times.

P.S. I’m still looking for work. If anyone has any contacts I can call, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

Busy time for me!

I have been quite busy of late. In addition to several shooting jobs, I finished editing a website video for a client, updated my reel and shot and edited a video for my grandmothers 90th birthday. I also helped with an audition for a friend. This was all after participating in the Olde English Faire at Wildlife Prairie Park.

As if that wasn’t enough, my wife was watching kids for several different people and my step kids are in town for several weeks. A couple of times last week we had 9 children in the house at one time, ranging in age from 4 months to 17 years. To say it’s been a bit chaotic would be an understatement!

I also have been looking into podcasting with a couple of Twitter friends of mine. It’ll be a pro/con discussion of filmmaking topics. Stay tuned for more info.

I now have a much better understanding of my Canon Rebel T2i. It really is a remarkable camera and I’m glad I get to shoot with it. With care, you can produce images you couldn’t have imagined as little as 5 years ago. The whole Canon line of HDSLR offerings is really wonderful. Now they need to move the technology into video hardware for ease of use in the field.

If all this isn’t enough, Apple released the iPhone 4. It looks spectacular and my Dad has one! Hopefully, I’ll get to lay hands on it tomorrow night when they come over for dinner.

I’m going to try to start posting more often. It’s been a bit sparse around here lately. Let’s hope I can fix that!
